Ambassador Program

Ambassador Program

Are you fired up about True Charity? Do you want to see other churches and nonprofits in your community get on board?

If so, you may be a good fit to become a True Charity Ambassador! Working alongside a True Charity team member for a one-year commitment, Ambassadors are trained to point others in the community toward effective charity ideas and resources. They also identify opportunities for nonprofits and churches to collaborate, and to implement the best practices for long-term results.

Ambassadors are willing to volunteer 2-4 hours a week in their community, and in exchange, the True Charity Team provides them with hands-on coaching and training at no cost. In most cases, a True Charity Network member organization dedicates a paid staff member’s time to promote this effort in their community, usually as the follow up to a True Charity Community Workshop.

A True Charity Ambassador is an individual trained in True Charity philosophy and resources. Ambassadors are usually employed by a church or nonprofit, and are equipped to help their own organization and to point others in their community toward True Charity ideas and resources. Ambassadors also serve their community creating opportunities for nonprofits and churches to collaborate around effective charity.

Anyone from a True Charity Network member organization who wants to communicate True Charity ideas effectively and share knowledge about available resources can become an Ambassador. The best Ambassadors are connectors and self-starters. They love being a part of the solution for needs in their communities.

We aim to help Ambassadors become subject matter experts on True Charity philosophy and tools. Here are some of the topics covered in the initial training:

  • The Seven Marks of Effective Charity (via True Charity University)
  • True Charity’s history and vision
  • True Charity’s favorite books: The Tragedy of American Compassion, When Helping Hurts, and Toxic Charity
  • True Charity Network resources, including Model Action Plans, Toolkits, and Curriculum Reviews
  • Models and best practices of effective charity
  • How to share True Charity Network with community members

Once this initial training is complete, the individual begins working toward the goals outlined below.

A True Charity Ambassador believes that the best charity is voluntarily-funded, challenge-oriented, and outcome-driven. We partner with them by meeting regularly for training and encouragement as they connect and equip their community. The Ambassador will work toward the following goals to be measured after the first year as an active Ambassador:

  • Recruit x# organizations to the True Charity Network
  • Assist with member engagement by connecting members to relevant MAPs, Toolkits, events, and other resources to drive internal practice improvement, and capture x# instances of practice change

After a full year, active Ambassadors are encouraged to attend the True Charity Annual Summit or participate in one True Charity event per quarter (or four per year), including but not limited to: Ambassador meetings, True Charity Webinars, True Charity Chats, 1:1 consultations, True Charity Gatherings. After serving as a True Charity Ambassador for one year, Ambassadors maintain their status as such by reaffirming their commitment to the program in a brief annual survey. Failure to complete the survey will be understood as their departure from the program.

Ambassadors are most often a natural follow-up to a True Charity Community Workshop. If their community has not hosted one, we strongly encourage Ambassadors to organize this event to move the conversation about effective charity forward in the community.

Because we want our resources to be used widely, we do not charge for the training, equipping, and consulting we provide to our Ambassadors. In exchange for our support, we ask that they work toward the above goals.

In most cases, we ask that you choose one staff member from your organization to be the official True Charity Ambassador. This allows for more clarity in setting goals, scheduling meetings, and completing tasks. We are glad to consider multiple Ambassadors within an organization, if an organization works in multiple communities or has different spheres of influence in the community. The determination will be made based on whether two ambassadors within an organization can complete twice as much as one.

Yes, as long as the ambassador candidate believes he or she can complete an independent set of goals for the position (outlined above).
