While many adults learn best through informal interaction, word of mouth, and trial-and-error, many attempts at life skills classes for our low-income neighbors are done in formally-structured settings that can feel intimidating or even disconnected from their reality.
The Chalmers Center, the organization behind the popular book When Helping Hurts, joins True Charity to explore why just providing good information isn’t enough in our poverty-alleviation efforts. We discuss some best practices of adult education to help you evaluate your current class offerings and/or consider how you may add new ones that connect better with your intended learners.
